Steeped In Tradition
Sri Lanka’s tea culture is a must for any tea lover! Even if you’re not a die-hard fan of the brew, the stunning tea plantations and hill country views will win you over in no time. Known for producing some of the finest teas in the world, the island’s tea culture is steeped in history and tradition.
The tea trails are about 3 to 4 hours away from Thalassa, so while you could make it a day trip, we recommend turning it into an overnight stay to fully embrace the experience. If staying over sounds like your kind of adventure, here are a few places we think you’ll love:
Where To Stay
- Ceylon Tea Trails in Bogawantalawa Valley – Luxurious with breathtaking views and plantation tours.
- Heritance Tea Factory in Nuwara Eliya – A unique experience in a restored tea factory with incredible surroundings.
- The Tea House by Dambatenne in Haputale – For something a bit more rustic, offering charm and authenticity.
How To Explore
The best way to experience the tea trails is by hopping on the scenic train ride from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya or Ella. It’s considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. If you prefer something a little more flexible, a private car and driver will take you through the lush tea plantations and hill country at a leisurely pace.
